Samoa appoints Senior Archivst

4:15 pm on 11 March 2009

The work of archivists in Samoa will step up to a new level after the appointment of a Senior Archivist, Amela Silioa.

The move was revealed by Vaveao Tevaga, a senior archives officer within Samoa's the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture who is currently in Wellington, New Zealand, attending an archives workshop.

The workshop is part of a series that is developing a government recordkeeping toolkit for countries in the Pacific region, which is funded by NZAID.

Ms Tevaga says their work in Samoa with government ministeries on recordkeeping is progressing well but couldn't move to another level until the appointment of a senior archivist.

"Its a very important position in our ministry, cause we've been waiting for almost two years now for this person because we can't have everything going up there on that up a level unless this person is in so that we can work things up and give it to the upper people to be approved an all that"

Other delegates attending the two day conference come from Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Cook Island, Fiji, Palau, and Nauru.
