Vanuatu's Correctional Services authorities say the number of high-risk inmates on the run from the prison in Port Vila has reportedly dropped from 16 to 10.
The Daily Post newspaper reports that the VMF paramilitary police have recaptured inmates' ringleader Markwin Kassimir and accused murderer Jack Nalau.
Among other high risk inmates still on the run is Jacky Saul who has escaped numerous times since he was convicted of murdering elderly Australian woman, Lindall Jacques, early last year.
There are reports that Saul is residing with his relatives in his home village at Melemat.
Corrections authorities say the community at Melemat has not been open to their attempts to have him recaptured.
But Corrections say chiefs and communities from north Efate, Eratap, Mele, Erakor and Pango are cooperating in the hunt for other inmates.
