One thousand new cases of dengue fever have been reported in New Caledonia since the beginning of the year.
Oceania Flash reports the outbreak's hotspot is the capital, Noumea, but there are also cases in other areas.
Health authorities say they are concerned about the speed at which the disease is spreading, with it doubling in the past two weeks.
The French government is sending help to the territory, providing more than 200 thousand US dollars for drugs and pesticides.
Other measures are also in place, such as screening inbound passengers at the Nouméa International airport and community awareness programmes.
