Papua New Guinea police have gunned down two alleged car thieves during a shootout in the capital Port Moresby.
Police shot dead the pair in the city's Morata district early on Saturday morning after five men were seen travelling in a stolen car.
A police official has told the local National newspaper that officers shot the two men during the confrontation while three others escaped.
Police say the alleged robbers had high powered guns.
The official says the car had been reported stolen from a popular nightclub and was later spotted in the Morata area, where there was a half hour long gun battle.
