The first shipment of emergency food and water supplies has been delivered in Solomon Islands nearly a week after floods devastated areas of northwest Guadalcanal where seven people lost their lives.
The Solomon Islands Disaster Management spokesperson Julian Makaa says there were some delays in getting the relief to the areas because of bad weather.
However, he says from a helicopter he could to see how the emergency supplies were bringing some relief to the villagers.
"I could see people using the still flooded rivers to wash their clothes and have a swim in them but the good thing is cartons of water are being shipped to them now."
Julian Makaa says the first supply of shipment was delivered on Wednesday with more shipments going up over the next few days.
