American Samoa economy gets a little boost

11:34 am on 28 January 2009

The American Samoa economy got a little boost yesterday in the local economy when the government's Tax Office released tax refund checks worth more than 1 million US dollars for tax year 2008.

Tax Office manager Melvin Joseph says the new money cannot come at a better time when American Samoa needs a shot to the economy.

About 600 refund checks were released yesterday totaling about $1.4 million.

The Tax Office will continue to release tax refund checks once they are processed and money in available in the government account.

Last year about 13.21 million US dollars in tax refunds was released for tax year 2007 to 14,000 individual tax filers.
