American Samoa's Hospital Authority Board has again extended the deadline for doctors who are not already United States-certified to sit and pass the US Medical Licensure Examination.
Under a resolution passed a year ago by the board, any doctor who had not signed up to sit the exam would have been without a job by the end of last month.
But according to Board chairman Moananu Va, this has now been put back to the end of this June.
Moananu says the board has reviewed the concerns which affected doctors and come up with a workable solution to meet their needs and the requirements of the licensing statute for medical personnel.
He says the board is now looking at bringing in doctors from the United States to prepare local doctors for the exam.
