French Polynesia's agriculture minister says he would like to deepen ties with New Zealand and work towards the recognition of New Zealand qualifications, such as those of veterinarians.
Tahitipresse says the minister, Jack Roomataroa, discussed this and biosecurity issues with the visiting New Zealand consul-general, Simon Draper, who is based in New Caledonia.
Mr Draper says the training of farmers remains a priority for the New Zealand government.
The minister says New Zealand is only a few hours away and could allow young French Polynesians to acquire skills and also practice their English.
