UPS stops live dolphin exports from Solomons

The air freight company, United Parcel Service, says it will no longer fly captured dolphins from Solomon Islands.

A month ago, UPS, which is the largest freight operator in the United States, transported seven live dolphins from Solomon Islands.

A batch of dolphins to be exported to the Philippines has now been halted.

The Solomon Islands activist for Earth Island Dolphin, Lawrence Makili, says the decision by the company follows pressure from activists around the world.

"So we put pressure to the company, and said, look if you still keep on doing this, we are going back to your consumers, you know your clients."

Mr Makili says despite this win, they are still aware that the government may look at alternatives to transport the dolphins.
