New Caledonia is experiencing a heatwave, with temperatures in Noumea having reached a record 35.6 degrees.
Forecasters say by nine o'clock on Monday morning, it was already 32 degrees.
They say humidity is in the range of 80 percent, with warm air being pushed from the northeast.
