US asks Federal court to dismiss CNMI motion

The United States has asked a federal court to dismiss the Northern Marianas motion for a preliminary injunction to suspend labor provisions of the federalisation law.

Lawyers for CNMI's Governor filed the motion in November, asking the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of Labor be stopped from taking over the CNMI's labour system.

The CNMI government reiterated arguments that the labour provisions of the Consolidated Natural Resources Act will violate the promises of self-government and economic development detailed in the Covenant.

The preliminary injunction was filed two months after the federalisation lawsuit.
