One of Fiji's major companies, Fijian Holdings Limited, has bought the regional petroleum company, BP South-West Pacific.

The Fiji Times says FHL has paid 109 million US dollars for a deal its chairman Isoa Kaloumaira dubbed historic.

Mr Kaloumaira says BP South West Pacific includes 67 retail outlets and related operations in Fiji, Tonga, American Samoa, the Cooks Islands, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

He says the investment will make FHL one of the largest corporate entities in the region with more than 1500 staff and from 2010 total revenue should exceed 340 million US dollars.

FHL was established more than 20 years ago to bring indigenous Fijians more fully into corporate activity in the country.
