New Zealand Olympic gold medallist, Valerie Vili, is being given a prime ministerial reception in Tonga tonight.

Ms Vili, who won gold in the shotput in Beijing, has strong links to Tonga and is visiting the country with her extended family.

The visit will include a short holiday and a private visit to Houma, the chiefly village of Ms Vili's late mother.

She is also expected to participate in some of the festivities and events associated with this week's National Sports Week.
