The public broadcaster in French Polynesia, RFO, has gone on strike in protest against the French government plans to stop advertising on public service television.
The strike in Tahiti is in support of the action taken by French unions at the national network which fears a loss of revenue and service.
As a result, television news broadcasts have been dropped for two days.
This comes as the territory's hospitals are set to go on strike at midnight tonight.
Meanwhile, a public sector strike is about to enter its third week as part of a campaign to stop the French government plans to downgrade pensions for those retiring overseas.
However, the action at the Papeete port has been eased and some of the thousands of containers piled up for days are being released.
