9:09 am on 20 November 2008

The Election Office in American Samoa will not certify the November 4 general election results of the referendum ballot until official notice is received from the High Court.

The Appellate Division of the High Court has set a November 24 hearing on the petition to invalidate the results of the November 4 voting on the veto override legislation.

Senate President Lolo Moliga, who spearheaded the petition, said yesterday he withdrawing the complaint and is now satisfied with the outcome of the vote.

The Chief Election Officer, Soliai Fuimaono, says he has received word the petition has been withdrawn but he is awaiting an official notification from the court and attorneys for the petitioners.

He says he cannot certify the results until that notice is in possession of the Election Office.
