Firefighters save Fiji cannery

9:29 am on 14 November 2008

A fire that threatened to destroy a large portion of Fiji's major fish cannery in Levuka and part of the historical township was brought under control yesterday, just three hours after it started.

Fijilive reports that the fire broke out in the Pacific Fishing Company Limited (PAFCO) engineering works building at around 1130 yesterday morning.

Two fire trucks fought the blaze and managed to prevent it spreading to an adjoining playschool and credit union office.

They also prevented the fire from spreading to the main PAFCO building.
