Probe complete in American Samoan policeman's beer case

An American Samoa internal police inquiry and a criminal investigation have been completed into the conduct of a policeman accused of assaulting an Asian store cashier who had refused to give him beer.

However, our correspondent says the Government does not appear to be close to filing charges.

Investigators have established that the policeman went to the store in Iliili for beer, but it was after 10 pm and the law prohibits sales after that time.

The store cashier alleges that when he refused to give him beer the officer came behind the counter and handcuffed him.

The incident was reportedly captured on the store's security camera.
