2:09 pm on 17 September 2008

Police in the Indonesian region of Papua says an explosion at an electricity mains station near an airport in Timika on Sunday evening was an attempt to sabotage vital installations belonging to the giant Freeport mine.

The Jakarta Post quotes the Papua deputy police chief, Brigadier General Prasetyo, saying the explosive planted at the gate of an electricity mains station was similar to those detonated nearby last week.

Additional bomb experts have been called in.

Brigadier General Prasetyo says they are not yet able to give detailed explanations and no group has claimed responsibility.
