Fiji's Labour Party leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, says the deposed Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase should drop the idea of getting back his pre-coup government.
Fijilive reports that Mr Chaudhry made the statement at the Labour Party Charter consultation meeting.
He says he has been through three coups, and the elected governments have never been given their power back.
Mr Chaudhry calls on the deposed prime minister should learn from that and join the charter discussions for there to be a collective view on how to take the nation forward.
He says calls by Mr Qarase and other interim government critics for an early 2009 election will be to no avail and he estimates if the charter discussions are successful, then Fiji should have an election by late 2009 or early 2010.
