The Solomon Islands Opposition says it has no involvement in a protest planned for Honiara this Thursday.
The Solomon Star reports that the opposition leader Manasseh Sogavare is accusing Deputy Prime Minister Fred Fono of fabricating allegations for political gain.
Mr Fono and some Non Government Organisation members have questioned the timing of the protest march and the motives and claims of those organising it.
The newspaper says Ramon Quitales Junior, the president of the GrassRoots Network , which is organising the protest, is the secretary of Mr Sogavare's SOCRED Party.
Mr Sogavare says Mr Fono is trying to discredit the Opposition in the lead up to the motion of no-confidence it is moving against Prime Minister Derek Sikua this Friday.
Mr Sogavare says if people are planning a protest to vent frustrations over how the Government is handling issues affecting them, that is their democratic right, and the opposition has no involvement.
