Japan Air Lines adds Palau charter flights

4:06 pm on 1 August 2008

Japan Air Lines will begin charter flights from Haneda Airport in Tokyo to Palau in October.

The Palau Horizon reports that the new flights will be in addition to a charter service that currently serves Palau from Narita-Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka.

There are five Japan-Palau charter flights scheduled between October the 6th and the 30th.

An airline spokesman has told the newspaper that most Japanese tourists interested in Palau are divers.

He hopes that the better weather in the October-November period, which usually results in clearer ocean water, would attract more divers.

Palau's primary source of tourism is Taiwan, though Japan Air Lines charter flights are a key element in the country's visitor industry.
