The King of Tonga has been crowned this morning before other royals, heads of state and politicians, in a ceremony based on that of the British monarchy.
The Tongan prime minister says while the King has given assent for an electoral commission on political change, the country will always have a monarch.
Feleti Seveli says Tongan people are inextricably linked to their King, but recognise the time has come for constituitional change.
"It's an occasion for us to re-kindle, as it were, our spirit of nationalism, the culture that we've had for thousands of years. So it is important."
