Solomon Islands government officials are in New Zealand for discussions to involve Solomon Islanders in a New Zealand labour scheme.

The SIBC reports acting Commissioner of Labour, Josiah Manehia and officers from the Department of Trade will discuss issues with the Labour Department in New Zealand, Union representatives as well as employers.

Mr Manehia says they are in New Zealand on the invitation of the New Zealand government.

He says the discussions will centre around conditions of the Labour scheme, workers' conditions and other terms of references.

Mr Manehia says following the discussions, Solomon Islands government will develop an agreement it hopes to sign with the New Zealand government and others to enable workers take up temporary work there.
