Heavily-armed thieves wearing police uniforms robbed a Papua New Guinea bank of 800,000 US dollars after kidnapping bank workers and family members.
Police say the robbers took two bank workers and the branch manager and his family hostage on Friday night before robbing the bank the next morning.
Police were alerted to the robbery late on Saturday and the hostages were freed from a Madang hotel.
The getaway car used by the gang to rob the Bank South Pacific branch in Madang was later found in Lae.
The raid on the BSP branch in Madang was the second such raid on a BSP bank in as many months - both involving the taking of hostages.
