The US Department of Transportation has approved South Pacific Express' application for a foreign air carrier permit to fly between Samoa and American Samoa.

The department said the applicant showed it is financially and operationally qualified to engage in foreign air transportation of persons, property and mail between Samoa and American Samoa.

The license also allows SPEX to operate charters.

The department approval granted under exemption authority is effective immediately.
