A diarrhoea outbreak in the Indonesian region of Papua has killed 17 people and affected hundreds of others in the past two months.

The Jakarta Post newspaper reports that authorities in Moanemani village in the Dogiay regency, are still investigating the causes of the epidemic.

The paper quotes officials in the provincial administration saying they are facing difficulties providing medical teams and drugs because of the village's remote location and the lack of transport.
