The Parliamentary Opposition Group in Solomon Islands has called on the Government to respond to recommendations in the final report of the Commission of Inquiry into the Honiara riots of 2006 .

The Acting Leader of Opposition, Japhet Waipora, says the Opposition understands the final report was submitted to the Government weeks ago.

The Solomon Island's Broadcasting Corporation reports that the inquiry document consists of two volumes; the first records the narration of those who gave evidence, whilst the other contains the recommendations aimed at avoiding a repeat of the April 2006 riot in the future.

Mr Waipora says the inquiry was important in establishing the facts surrounding the riot which caused a significant loss in business and employment.

The Acting Leader of Opposition says the Commission of Inquiry came up with very important recommendations and the country, especially the people directly affected, would like to know the government's response.
