Fiji's leader and the man he deposed hold talks in Suva

The interim Fiji Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama, and the man whose government he removed in December 2006, Laisenia Qarase, have met behind closed doors at the parliamentary complex in Suva.

The meeting was brokered by Catholic Archibishop, Petero Mataca, and the head of the Methodist Church, Laisiasa Ratabacaca.

Mr Qarase has told Fiji Television that the discussions were preliminary and that agreement was reached to hold futher meetings.

He described the atmosphere as good, casual and informal.

The two men reportedly discussed healing and reconciliation.
