Former Fiji Sun publisher's lawyer files challenge in High Court

The former Fiji Sun publisher Russell Hunter's lawyer will file a substantive challenge in the High Court following his removal from the country.

The paper, The Fiji Times, reports this was revealed outside court by Mr Hunter's Fiji lawyer, Suruj Sharma, who said they will be filing a substantive challenge by way of constitutional redress or judicial review.

Mr Hunter, who is an Australian citizen, was deported by the Immigration Department in February despite a High Court order that his expulsion be stopped.

Mr Sharma said the interim injunction remains in place even though Mr Hunter was not in the country.

He said these issues will be contained in the substantive challenge when it is filed.

The case was called in chambers to check on the status of the interim injunction before Justice Jiten Singh on Thursday.

It was adjourned to June the 11th.
