Nauru's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Finance, Dr Kieren Keke, has welcomed a report by the Asia Development Bank or ADB, acknowledging his government's progress in achieving growth and good governance.
The Country Economic Report says the medium-term outlook for Nauru's economic health is optimistic as reforms implemented by the present government take hold.
Dr Keke says Nauru is finally emerging from a serious economic decline brought about by poor decisions and a lack of accountability on the part of previous administrations.
But he says it still has a long way to go, but the ADB report confirms we are on the right track and with careful management and continued good government.
Dr Keke, who is currently visiting Australia, said the timing of the report was helpful as he prepares to sit down with the Australian government to work out new aid arrangements in the wake of the refugee detention centre closure.
He says Nauruans are encouraged by the comments from the parliamentary secretary for Pacific Affairs confirming the Australian government would continue to provide aid to Nauru.
