Fiji's Interim Ministry of Education is calling on schools to take better hygiene measures in the wake of typhoid and diarrhoea outbreaks.

The Fiji Times reports education officials have advised schools to thoroughly clean all toilets and handbasins to avoid the spread of disease.

It stresses its importance, saying children are the most susceptible.

Many people in Fiji do not have access to typhoid vaccinations.
