Meeting in Samoa of fisheries officials to review strategic plans

11:57 am on 11 February 2008

Samoa will this week be hosting a special meeting for all heads of fisheries departments in the pacific to review and endorse the revised strategic plan for fisheries management and costal fisheries.

The plan was adopted by the South Pacific Community, or SPC member countries and territories back in 2003.

The implementation of the Strategic Plan revealed serious management problems of coastal fisheries in the region that need to be addressed.

The three day special session, which will start tomorrow, is funded by the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Government of Iceland.
