Mayor of Tinian pleas for funding to save workers jobs

4:17 pm on 8 February 2008

The Mayor of Tinian in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas is asking for more money, so he doesn't have to sack workers.

More than a million dollars was given to Saipan to delay job cuts there, and Tinian's Mayor Jose San Nicolas is asking for something similar.

He says an extra 1.7 million dollars in the governor's budget would be enough to save nearly one hundred and thirty jobs..

Mayor San Nicholas says he would rather reduce work hours and holiday pay than let people go.
