Australia opens another of its Pacific technical schools

8:25 pm on 4 February 2008

A new Australia-Pacific Technical College has opened in Samoa, with more than 50 students.

The college is part of an Australian government training scheme, with one hundred and thirty five million US dollars in funding for four years.

Students from around the Pacific can study manufacturing, tourism, automotive and other trades, and the Australian Government is also making some scholarships available.

Australia's Parliamentary Secretaries for International Development Assistance and Pacific Island Affairs have visited the college in Apia.

They've hailed it as practical, and symbolic of their country's close relationship with Pacific nations.
