Fiji Methodist charter stance to be released on Friday

2:32 pm on 21 January 2008

The Methodist Church hierarchy in Fiji will meet on Friday to decide on the church's stand on the proposed People's Charter aimed at setting policy directions.

The Fiji Times reports that the assistant general secretary, the Reverend Tuikilakila Waqairatu, has confirmed this yesterday.

There are more than 200,000 Methodists in Fiji, most of them are indigenous Fijians.

The church has been distancing itself from commenting on the proposed charter since its inception last year.

The Reverend Waqairatu says the church will make its decision known on Friday.

The interim administration has pleaded for public support for the proposed charter.
