New hearing in Fiji Tuesday to consider releasing Ballu Khan

5:34 am on 8 January 2008

A hearing will reconvene today at the High Court in Suva to decide whether a New Zealand man will be released from police custody.

Ballu Khan has been held in Fiji without charge since early November, for his alleged involvement in a plot to kill the prime minister, Frank Bainimarama.

He remains under police guard while being treated in hospital for injuries received during his arrest.

His lawyer, Peter Williams QC, says the police want to interrogate Mr Khan further.

But he says his client has already been questioned and detained for far longer than the law allows.
