Samoa police clamp down on marijuana growers

2:31 pm on 28 December 2007

The police in Samoa have put more officers on the beat in Apia, especially in the two main markets, after eleven people were arrested last week for possession of illegal drugs, mainly cannabis.

An police assistant commissioner, Papalii Li'o, says the number of arrests was a record.

He says this shows an increase in the number of people growing marijuana plants and police will step up efforts to make sure the cultivators are prosecuted
