Reports from the Papua New Guinea capital say four people died in what police described as an ethnic clash over the weekend during which bows and arrows, bush knives and other weapons were used.

The Post Courier newspaper says the clash in Morata suburb resulted in three men, an Eastern Highlander and two from the Western Highland, killed.

Port Moresby police confirmed the clashes but said according to their report only one man from Western highland was killed during the fights.

The cause of the fighting is not known.
