Another garment company in CNMI closes

Another garment company Winners Corporation will be closing its factory in Saipan in February, the fifth to announce its closure in the past month.

The company employs over 500 workers.

The Saipan Tribune newspaper says Winners general manager Mn Ho Sil informed the Labor Department last week of the planned closure.

All factory workers were verbally informed and given written notice last week.

Garment manufacturers have been exiting the Commonwealth, citing adverse economic conditions caused by increases in the minimum wage, trade competition in China and other Asian countries, the increased costs of conducting business and a slump in orders.
