The French Overseas Secretary of State, Christian Estrosi, is due in French Polynesia this week for his fourth visit in less than five months.
This comes as the territory is gearing up for an early general election next month in line with a reform plan drawn up by Paris which is aimed at increasing political stability.
The reform plan has been opposed by the French Polynesian government and the biggest opposition party.
Mr Estrosi is expected to make a series of visits including one to the political stronghold of Oscar Temaru's pro-independence party in Faa'a.
He will also travel to the Marquesas Islands in the territory's north.
