Health sector strike in French Polynesia resolved

2:47 pm on 27 November 2007

A ten day long strike by doctors and nurses in French Polynesia has been resolved.

They had been pushing for an increase in funding for the territory's main hospital.

But in an agreement concluded at the weekend, the Government has agreed to an increase of the 2008 budget for the main public hospital, Mamao, in the capital, Pape'ete.

The budget increase is reportedly to go towards improving cardiovascular emergency services and paediatrics outpatients.
