Solomon Islands PM terminates RAMSI special envoy appointment

11:19 am on 15 November 2007

The Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, has terminated the appointment of Michael Maina as the government's Special Envoy to the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands.

A government statement says the termination took effect on November 9.

Mr Sogavare said his action stems from Mr Maina's failure to provide official reports on his performance as special coordinator.

He said Mr Maina's persistent failure to submit regular reports on all aspects of his assignment is simply unacceptable and leaves the Prime Minister with no option but to terminate his contract.

Mr Maina was appointed as Special Envoy to RAMSI on May 1 this year.
