Fiji's deposed prime minister says 11 months after his government was removed for alleged corruption, he is still waiting for proof of such activities.
Laisenia Qarase has told the Fiji Sun the corruption allegations made by the military against his government were not the real reasons for the coup.
He says none of his ministers has been prosecuted and he does not believe the military will find any evidence against any of them.
Mr Qarase says the so-called clean-up campaign will never eradicate corruption from society, adding that neither he nor Commodore Frank Bainimarama nor anyone else can eradicate corruption.
He says the best human beings can do is to try and control, prevent and reduce corruption.
He says the irony of the allegations against his government is that after 11 months in office, the interim government is leaving behind a very long list of corrupt activities, incidents of bad governance, abuse of public funds, infringements of laws and abuses of human rights.
Mr Qarase says the only certain thing at this time is that the next elected government will have a lot of cleaning up to do.
