Samoa police consider laying charges against Satapuala villagers

11:31 am on 10 November 2007

Samoa police are monitoring the illegal occupation of government land at Mulifanua by Satapuala village, and taking notes of the illegal cultivation of land.

The assistant police commissioner and spokesman, Papalii Li'o, says several police officers are patrolling the area, but denies that an operation has been planned for today to remove crops and stop further cultivation of the land.

His comments come after a village source said they had been told that police will take action this weekend.

But the assistant commissioner says the only thing police need to consider now is whether criminal charges should be laid against the villagers or not.
