The national director of Fiji's SDL party, Peceli Kinivuwai, has confirmed he was questioned for 48 hours in connection the alleged assassination conspiracy against members of the interim government and released.
Mr Kinivuwai was taken in on Sunday, a day after two suspects with close links to the SDL party, the Naitasiri paramount chief, Ratu Inoke Takiveikata, and New Zealand national, Ballu Khan, were arrested.
Mr Kinivuwai has told Fiji TV that while he underwent intense and mind-wrecking questioning, there was no threat of force.
He says based on the line of questioning, police wanted to implicate him in the alleged conspiracy.
Mr Kinivuwai says the SDL has nothing to do with illegal activities outside the parameters of the constitution and has never tried to frustrate or derail the interim regime.
He says as far as he is concerned, he is no longer a suspect in the conspiracy.
The plot was allegedly aimed at assassinating the interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, the interim finance minister, Mahendra Chaudhry, the interim attorney general, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, and two senior military officers.
