The Fiji Retailers Association says the current political situation is alarming for businesses and investors.
The association's president, Himmat Lodhia, says most of the crimes are reported internationally and magnified immensely to the extent that everyone in Fiji suffers the repercussions.
Mr Lodhia says tourism, investment, foreign trade and foreign aid are all affected to the extent that the common man suffers.
He says the business community would like to see peace and stability maintained to a tolerable level and he is calling for the re-introduction of roadside checkpoints at strategic locations.
