Tonga fisheries officials to learn from Samoa

A Tongan delegation is in Samoa to learn more about the country's fisheries division's community management programme.

Samoa's Fisheries Division says the community-based fisheries management programme was first introduced in there 12 years ago, and is now being adopted by other Pacific Island countries.

The project takes into account the ownership and management of near shore resources at the village and community level and by communities' members themselves.

The Tongan group is in Samoa for a week and will visit a number of community fisheries projects in the country.
