The Speaker of the Solomon Islands Parliament, Sir Peter Kenilorea, says the government is working at ensuring women are represented in parliament.
Women's role in decision making in the Pacific has been highlighted as an issue at regional discussions in Auckland on the integration of international human rights standards into national policy.
Sir Peter Kenilorea, says of the 50 members of parliament in the Solomon Islands, none is a woman.
"Whilst we do not discriminate against women per se, our traditional lifestyle is such that when it comes to elections it's always the men that have the success. There is a lot of discussion to try to deal with this particular issue so that we do have women representatives in decision making bodies."
Sir Peter Kenilorea says there's a lack of education on human rights in both the government and the public.
