More tax relief for American Samoa canneries to be considered

A one-year extension of tax credits for American Samoa's canneries has been proposed in a bill introduced in the US House of Representatives.

The tax credits are due to expire at the end of this year.

The extension has been attached to a bill that would provide additional tax relief for low income families, repeal the individual alternative minimum tax, reform the corporate income tax and other purposes.

The American Samoan member of the US Congress, Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin, says this is not what the territory asked for, but the bill's sponsor Congressman Charles Rangel has to give equal treatment to all members who have asked for similar requests.
