Chinese investors on factfinding trip to Fiji

10:35 am on 26 September 2007

A group of Chinese investors and consultants is in Fiji to attend a match-making forum to which aims to identify areas of investment.

Among the group are officials from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.

Fiji's interim minister for trade and commerce, Taito Waradi, says given the enormous opportunities available in the booming Chinese economy, Fiji would like to be part and parcel of that growth.

He says there has been a 300% growth in Fiji's exports to China since 2001 and two Chinese hotel projects are in the pipeline awaiting implementation.

Mr Waradi has told the visiting delegation that they have chosen to look beyond Fiji's shortcomings and failings to foresee a future that is bright if one has the will to learn from the mistakes of history.
